Squire

Squire was born on the outskirts of Kelethin. His mother and father kind to him during his childhood, instilling in him all the knowledge a Woodland Elf would need to survive in the not so nice world. But Squire longed for more. He was often found miles away from his home near the border of a human village.

While proud to be a Woodland Elf, he longed for the life of a human male...and to be able to apprentice with the great Paladins of the realm. One day while in the woods with his father, they noticed a elderly human female in a carriage screaming at the top of her lungs. She had dropped the reins to her horse and he was at full gallop. Squire’s father jumped on his horse and quickly caught up to the womans carriage and forced the horse to stop. The woman was very grateful and offered his father a reward for saving her life. At that moment a burly noble looking man in full plate armor and a sword almost as tall as Squire himself rode out of the woods.

He introduced himself as Sir Eric Silverleaf. Squire’s eyes grew wide. He recognized the name immediately. For the name Silverleaf was widely know to be Noble blood. Sir Eric was a Paladin. Sir Eric offered a handsome reward to the two Woodland Elves for rescuing his mother from certain death. Seeing the look of total awe in his young sons eyes, Squire’s father pushed the money away and asked Sir Eric for favor instead. “My son here has longed to be one of your kind, a Paladin, would you consider taking him on as your Squire?” Sir Eric seemed horrified at the request but did his best to hide the feelings he had for elves. Since it was a debt of honor...he could not refuse.

It was that day that the young elf received his new name, Squire. Squire, however, learned that entering a human village wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. He was often teased and ridiculed by the other human children because of his size and his ears. He grew to hate and distrust humans. All but Sir Eric. Sir Eric was very kind to Squire teaching him of honor and courage.

Not five months into his training Sir Eric was found to have passed away in his sleep at the age of 46. Squire was crushed. The one person in world understood his dreams was gone. Squire tried to apprentice with other Paladins but was coldly turned away by all that he spoke to, saying that a elf couldn’t possibly understand the life of a Paladin. Bitter and on his own, he headed back to his life as a Woodland Elf.
