"For I delight in loyalty rather than sacrifice, and in knowledge of Truth rather than burnt offerings."

The founders and many residents of the Beggar's Feast are veteran role-players and have vast experience with online organizations. We've seen, made and learned from many of the mistakes that went along with most of the groups formed around MUD's and the earlier online role-playing games. The Beggar's Feast is a second generation organization and we're shooting for something 'different' than what you're likely used to.

The key is balance. There must be a balance between rules and flexibility. There has to be enough structure so that everyone understands what we're shooting for, yet we are not here to play "mom" or "dad" to petty disputes. The leaders are not here for a power trip, and we hope that you realize that some firm leadership is sometimes required to make decisions which will affect the group. Many times, the residents are divided on these issues and while the leaders try to follow the consensus of the residents, sometimes tough choices have to be made. All we ask is that residents respect our thought process and decisions in these matters. The bottom line is that we're here to have fun and to role-play!

If you have not noticed, we try to avoid the terms "guild" or "clan" when referring to our group. We've been down that road before, and seen a lot of the politics and problems they all face. We like to think of the Beggar's Feast as more a "gathering place" for role-players to hang out. With that, we merely try to let our maturity and role-playing speak for itself. If you can role-play enough to tolerate us, then you're welcome to hang around as you wish - providing you can reciprocate the maturity. No questions asked and no pressure to join.

Beggar's Feast Organization:

The Beggar's Feast has a very simple organization. Residents are simply those who have chosen to take up permanent residence within the Inn, Tavern or Abbey in the name of Virtue. Residents follow Virtue and are grouped by skills and tasks - not by ranks. We don't use this to create  "divisions" but rather to group people based on the services they wish to provide to the Abbey as a whole. All Residents  are working toward the same goals, yet in order to achieve our large-scale goals, we have to break them down into more manageable tasks and responsibilities.

Our experience with large organizations has shown this system of smaller tasks to be effective. We cannot merely task everyone to "Go out and teach Truth, Love and Courage to the world." We'd be looking at a bunch of deer gazing in the headlights. So instead, we break the goals into smaller, more manageable responsibilities that each person can take. This ensures the Residents understand their roles, yet they also understand that their roles are vital to the overall success (or failure) of the Beggar's Feast. It works!

The three groups within the Beggar's Feast are as follows:

  • Sages - The Sages are the Mages, Clerics, Scribes and Scholars. They are responsible for maintaining and expanding our vast Library of Knowledge. They research not only the Virtues, but Magery, Alchemy, Inscription and other items which require the use of the brain over the brawn. Since they tend not to wander too far out of the confines of our facilities, they are also tasked with the maintenance and upkeep of the Sanctuary and per Ankh. Scholars and Mages are expected to provide healing and magic during battles.
  • Artisans - The Artisans are the Entertainers, Craftsmen and Tradesfolk. They are skilled in the crafts which create, repair and provide income to the group. This includes, but is not limited to Blacksmiths, Carpenters, Bowyers, Bakers, Brewers, Tailors, Tinkers and Bards. We'll all need items which can be only be created by talented tradesfolk, and by having tradesfolk in the Beggar's Feast, we all are kept supplied. Tradesfolk are expected to keep our Scholars and Paladins well equipped for battle and are also expected to take arms in times of need.
  • Templars - Even an Inn, Tavern or Abbey is open to attack by evil. Our Templars are the main line of defense. In addition to defending our facilities, the quest of the Templar is to protect the innocent throughout the land of Britannia. In addition, they will be tasked with searching the dungeons in search of magical resources in which our tradesfolk can then craft into usable items. Templars are expected to man the front lines during battles.

Leadership:

The leadership of the Beggar's Feast is provided by a Council of 3, each representing one of the three organizational groups. Each of the Council members has equal authority, ensuring no single person can make unilateral decisions. There is a Council elected 'Council Leader'. The Council Leader is an honorary role used to facilitate meetings and role-playing functions. The ultimate authority of the Beggar's Feast is the entire Council. The current Council is as follows:
Daylar de'Otaros
"Master Bard"
Council Leader
Sigma Stellaris
"Arch Mage"
Tarl Taltos
"Lord Templar"

Residency:

If you desire to take up residency within the Beggar's Feast, and help contribute to our goals and efforts, then we will gladly help you along. Visit our Residency page for more information.

Visitors:

Just as expected, Visitors are allowed anywhere in the public facilities, but are not considered "residents". As mentioned above, if you merely want to hang out and have some role-players to do some things with, then be welcome here. We're not going to push people to offer more than they can provide.
